Comparison
A Superapp alternative for teams that also need Android
Both tools generate real Swift and hand you an Xcode project you own. The differences that decide it are narrower than either of us would like to pretend: whether you have a Mac, whether you will ever ship Android, and whether you want your usage metered.
Read this before the table
If you do not have a Mac, stop here and use Superapp. It runs in a browser and builds in the cloud — in their words, you can build and publish a native iOS app "from Windows, a Chromebook, or Linux, with no Mac and no Xcode at all." Modaal is a macOS app that drives Xcode locally. There is no version of this comparison where Modaal wins for someone on a Windows laptop, and pretending otherwise would waste your afternoon.
If you will never ship Android, Superapp is a strong fit too. They say so themselves: "It does not build Android apps: the focus is the Apple ecosystem, and the output is Swift." Focus is not a weakness. Their App Store automation is more developed than ours, and they have a browsable directory of shipped apps to point at.
Modaal is the better answer when the app should exist on both platforms, when a metered credit balance is the wrong shape for how you work, or when you want to choose which AI model writes your code.
Side by side
Every cell sourced from the vendor’s own site, checked 29 August 2026. Prices in the currency each vendor publishes.
| Modaal | Superapp | |
|---|---|---|
| iOS output | Native Swift and SwiftUI, a standard Xcode project on your disk | "Real Swift and SwiftUI, the same code a human iOS developer writes" |
| Android | Native Kotlin and Compose, sharing logic with iOS. Open beta, GA September 2026. | "It does not build Android apps" |
| Do you need a Mac? | Yes. macOS, Xcode 26+, roughly 50 GB free. | No. Runs in any browser, builds in the cloud. A Mac version exists and is optional. |
| Pricing shape | Flat seat. No credits, no metering. | Credits. $25/mo for 50, $50 for 110, $100 for 230. Top-ups $18 for 30. |
| Free tier | Free plan: one active project, unlimited prompts, one platform. | 5 credits. Their homepage says these reset daily on Mac; their FAQ says 5 a day outright. |
| Which AI writes the code | Your choice — Claude Agent, Codex CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot CLI, OpenCode and others, on your own subscription | Not disclosed on their site. No bring-your-own-key option documented. |
| Inference cost | Your existing AI subscription. Modaal adds no per-token charge. | Included in credits |
| Code ownership | No export step — a standard Xcode project on your disk from the first build | "You fully own the code and can export it anytime", on any plan |
| App Store submission | Run on device, TestFlight and App Store upload from the app, with automatic device registration | Prepares build, metadata, screenshots, privacy declarations, ASO and submission flow |
| Platform breadth | iPhone, iPad, Watch, Android | iPhone, iPad, Watch, Mac. Plus 3D games, AR, Live Activities, Siri intents, widgets. |
Which one you actually want
| If you | We recommend | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You do not own a Mac | Superapp | Modaal builds through Xcode, which is macOS-only. This is not close and there is no workaround worth attempting. |
| iOS only, and you want the App Store part handled | Superapp | Their submission automation covers metadata, screenshots, privacy declarations and ASO. Ours handles the build, upload and device registration but stops short of the store listing. |
| The app needs Android as well | Modaal | Superapp states plainly that it does not build Android apps, and points you at cross-platform builders instead. Duet shares the logic across both while keeping each interface native. |
| You already pay for Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini | Modaal | You connect that subscription and Modaal adds no per-token charge. Superapp does not disclose which model it uses or offer a bring-your-own-key path, so you would be paying for inference twice. |
| You dislike watching a credit balance | Modaal | A flat seat and unlimited prompts. Whether that matters depends entirely on temperament — some people find metering focuses the mind. |
| You want Mac apps, AR or 3D games | Superapp | They cover ground we do not. Modaal targets iPhone, iPad, Watch and Android. |
Where we agree
It is worth being clear that the usual native-versus-wrapper argument does not apply here. Superapp generates real Swift and SwiftUI as a standard Xcode project, and they let you export it on every tier, unconditionally. There is no lock-in angle to attack and we are not going to invent one.
They also have something we do not: a public directory of shipped apps at their /apps page, with names and App Store IDs you can go and check. Claims like "thousands of native iOS apps already live on the App Store" are easy to make and hard to substantiate; publishing a browsable list is the substantiation. Credit where it is due.
Their team's background — engineers formerly at Bolt, Grammarly, Wix and MacPaw — is stated on their own site and is not the kind of thing we would dispute.
Two things worth asking them
Neither of these is a gotcha. Both are things we would want to know as a buyer, and neither is answered on their site.
Which model writes your code. We looked across their homepage, features page, AI app builder page, FAQ, Xcode alternative page and privacy policy. No AI provider is named anywhere, and no bring-your-own-key option is documented. That is a legitimate product choice — plenty of tools abstract the model deliberately — but it means you cannot pick a model, cannot use a subscription you already pay for, and cannot know whose terms apply to your code. If that matters to you, ask.
What their free tier actually is. Their homepage says "The free plan includes 5 credits — on Mac they reset daily." Their FAQ says "Superapp has a free mode with 5 credits a day that reset daily." One reads as a Mac-only daily reset, the other as a flat daily allowance. We are not going to pick the flattering interpretation on their behalf; ask before you plan around either.
The Android difference, concretely
Superapp's answer to Android is unusually straightforward, and worth quoting in full because it is more useful than most competitor copy: "If you need iOS and Android from one project, a cross-platform builder like Rork, FlutterFlow, or Adalo is a better fit."
That is fair advice, and it points at the real trade. Those tools share logic by sharing a runtime — React Native or Flutter — so both interfaces render through the same engine rather than the platform's own.
Duet takes the other route. From Modaal's documentation: "Each feature's logic — its state, the actions that change it, the effects it requests — is written once. The iPhone app renders that state in SwiftUI; the Android app renders it in Jetpack Compose." Each app follows its own platform's conventions — Apple's Human Interface Guidelines on one side, Material 3 on the other.
The part that makes it more than a wish is the test: "Behavior is recorded as fixture files. Both platforms replay the same fixtures and the gate is byte equality." When the two platforms disagree, the build fails.
Android is in open beta, with general availability in September 2026.
One claim of theirs we would treat carefully
Superapp's homepage states they are "the only app builder that fully automates App Store bureaucracy, turning a painful process into two clicks with a rejection rate close to zero."
We have no evidence this is untrue, and their submission automation is genuinely more developed than ours. What we can say is that neither figure is sourced anywhere on their site — no rejection data, no methodology, and no definition of what "fully automates" excludes.
App Store review outcomes depend heavily on what the app does: subscriptions, account deletion, user-generated content and privacy declarations account for most rejections, and none of those are things a builder can automate away. Treat "close to zero" as marketing language rather than a number, the same way you should treat any unsourced figure on our site.
Frequently asked questions
No, and they say so directly: "It does not build Android apps: the focus is the Apple ecosystem, and the output is Swift." Note a separate FAQ of theirs says you can use Superapp from a browser on an Android device — that is about running the builder, not shipping to Android.
For Superapp, no — it runs in a browser and builds in the cloud, and they offer an optional Mac version with faster local previews. For Modaal, yes: it drives Xcode locally, so it needs macOS, Xcode 26 or newer and roughly 50 GB of free disk space.
Yes, and neither locks you in. Superapp lets you export the full Xcode project on any plan. Modaal has no export step at all — the project is a standard Xcode project on your own disk from the first build.
Different shapes rather than different amounts. Superapp meters credits: $25 a month for 50, $50 for 110, $100 for 230, with $18 top-ups of 30 credits that carry over. Monthly billing only. Modaal charges a flat seat with unlimited prompts and no credits, and you bring your own AI subscription so inference is not billed twice.
Modaal runs on whichever agent you connect — Claude Agent, Codex CLI, Cursor, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot CLI, OpenCode and others — authenticated with your existing subscription. Superapp does not name a model anywhere on its site and does not document a bring-your-own-key option.
Superapp, on current evidence. They prepare the build, metadata, screenshots, privacy declarations, ASO and the submission flow. Modaal handles running on a real device, TestFlight and App Store upload with automatic device registration, but does not build your store listing for you.
